Operations and Equipment
A state-of-the-art landfill requires an elaborate system of operations and equipment:

A scale system is used to weigh all trucks entering the landfill. Municipalities and private garbage haulers are charged by the ton for the waste that they bring in, according to the type of waste.
Heavy equipment is used to manage the proper disposal of the waste each day. Compactors are used to crush the waste and conserve landfill space. On especially dry, windy days, a water truck wets down roads. Bulldozers and trucks are used to apply cover material to the waste.
Preapproval of type 27 waste is required. The waste is sampled and submitted to laboratory analysis for approval before industries are allowed to transport it.
Inspectors are on site to check for proper classification of waste, out-of-county waste, recyclables and banned materials.

Waste Types Permitted in the Landfill Include the Following
Type 10 waste – Municipal waste collected from residents, businesses and institutions.
Type 13 waste – Bulky waste such as construction and demolition debris, furniture and certain appliances.
Type 27 waste – Non-hazardous waste from industries, which must be preapproved by the MCUA.

Asbestos and hazardous waste are not permitted in the Landfill
